The Money Shot: 4.5.07

Today's headlines...

Carl Newman Reveals New Pornographers LP Details (Pitchfork)
The Money Shot: I thought if there was any weakness of Mass Romantic that it was a bit too "push 'go' and then continue for 40 minutes on maximum." So I think ever since then, we've been trying to pull back. So many of the records I love just have everything in them, you know? Take the White Album. Even though people don't think it's the best Beatles record, I always loved it because it was so disparate sounding. And I think I've always wanted to make records like that. And so maybe it's no coincidence that we have four singers in the band; it's always a subliminal nod to the Beatles.

Son Volt's Jay Farrar searches for an escape (Metromix)
MS: Do you ever feel confined by technology?

You mean become a slave to it? Maybe with regard to e-mail, yeah. Not so much with texting but email can actually get to the point where it's overwhelming. If you get, like, 30 or so in a day that's where I'm ready to go to that island and do the Son Volt reality show.

The Shins, Wu-Tang, Crowded House Set For Bumbershoot (Billboard)
MS: The Shins, the Wu-Tang Clan, Panic! At The Disco, the reformed Crowded House and Lupe Fiasco lead the initial lineup for the 2007 installment of Bumbershoot: Seattle's Music & Arts Festival. The event will be held Sept. 1-3 throughout the Seattle Center. Steve Earle, Devotchka, Devendra Banhart, Roky Erickson, Allison Moorer and Magnolia Electric Company are also on the bill.

World Reacts To Keith Richards 'snorting dad' story (NME)
MS: The story's impact clearly took The Rolling Stones camp by surprise, with Richards manager Jane Rose trying to play down the story, claiming it was "said in jest", while his UK spokesman not only struggled with the story but today's date suggesting: "It was an off-the-cuff remark... file under April Fool's joke".
