The Money Shot: Lips, CBGB, QOTSA, Sex Pistols, Radiohead, Death Cab & Cuomo Solo

Today's headlines...

Lips Expand Zaireeka for 10th Anniversary Parties (Pitchfork)
MS: Oh, and they also decided to record and release the resulting album in a fairly ridiculous manner: spread across four discs, each containing different music and meant to be played simultaneously (or, for a real trip, in various combinations).

Say what you will about the practicality and listener friendliness of such an endeavor. What's perhaps most ridiculous is that Zaireeka was originally released in 1997, and thus turns ten years old this year (crazy, ain't it?).

New York Rockers Pay Tribute to C.B.G.B. Founder (Variety)
MS: Vernon Reid of Living Colour said: "Tolerance sucks. You 'tolerate' a paper cut or a sprained ankle. Musicians want acceptance, not 'tolerance,' and that's what we got from Hilly Kristal. Living Colour truly became a band at C.B.G.B."

Homme Itching To Record With New QOTSA Lineup (Billboard)
MS: "They're just, like, open endings and cues and saying, 'Let's try to head this general direction' so it's not endless jam band stuff," Homme explains. "That way we never get bored and it's always fresh for us. That gives us the best chance of trying to blow people away, blow their minds. I don't think we've touched the tip of the iceberg of what we're able to do now. We should really be stretching as far as possible."

Sex Pistols' 'Bollocks' Hits U.S. iTunes (Billboard)
MS: The Sex Pistols' 1977 album "Never Mind the Bollocks ... Here's the Sex Pistols" was made available digitally in the U.S. for the first time today (Oct. 16) via the iTunes Music Store.

Rivers Cuomo putting out solo work (Paste)
MS: "I've compiled a CD of my favorite demos from the years 1992 to 2007 and Geffen Records has agreed to put it out this December, on the eleventh. I hope you enjoy it. I may also be able to put out more demo CDs in the near future," wrote Cuomo.

Radiohead To Tour Next Year (NME)
MS: "He likes to do shows, but the whole business of schlepping round the world is not top of his favourite things to do," he said. "It's the process of how to do that which is the pain in the neck. They're not road dogs. They never have been."

Death Cab For Cutie Guitarist's Camp Gets A Reply From U.S. Customs Rep: 'Have Them Call Me' (MTV)
MS: On September 19, an employee of the Vancouver, British Columbia, studio where Walla had recorded his Field Manual was stopped at the Peace Arch border crossing near Blaine, Washington. U.S. Customs seized a hard drive containing unmixed versions of Walla's songs, claiming it had to analyze the information contained on the drive, and sent the unwitting employee back to Vancouver with only a box of half-inch audio tapes.
