The Money Shot: 10.11.07

Today's headlines...

RIAA Juror: 'We Wanted to Send a Message' (Wired Blog)
MS: "I think she thought a jury from Duluth would be naïve. We're not that stupid up here," he said. "I don't know what the fuck she was thinking, to tell you the truth."

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Tell Of China's 'New Rock Scene' (NME)
MS: "We have brought back with us the sounds and smells of China's burgeoning new rock scene - bands like Re-Tros and Queen Sea Big Shark, New Pants and P.K.14 (among many others!!) They fucked us up! Check them out, they are all on Myspace- so you can hear what we heard and maybe see what we saw."

A late night call to Kortedala: DiS gets serious with Jens Lekman
(Drowned In Sound)
MS: The thing with my songs, and I’ve been offered so many soundtrack possibilities and commercials and all that, is that they are just a little too lyrically dedicated to a person. I don’t see how they could fit in to that kind of situation. I do understand, for example, how José González’s songs fit into the most personal in your own life as well as a TV commercial. I can definitely see that. But my songs? You know every time I’m approached by these producers it’s always like, “Can we use your songs? And if we can, would you please change the lyrics so it’s not dedicated to a certain person here and there?”

Black Francis' Dutch Tribute (LA Times)
MS: Resurrecting Black Francis, however, also indicates he can't keep the Pixies alive. He notes without rancor that co-founder and bassist Kim Deal isn't interested. "While I may have tried to convince her otherwise, maybe she's got a point," says Francis, whose recent sets have included Pixies tunes. "She doesn't need a new [Pixies] record, so maybe there doesn't need to be one."

The Hold Steady Build Hype With Classic Rock (The Lantern)
MS: "You don't want to date a musician, especially one that tours," Kubler said. "We're emotional, we usually drink too much, we're a pain in the ass, it's always about us and we're gone all the time."
