The Money Shot: 8.3.07

Catching up on the week's headlines...

Jack White brands journalists lazy (NME)
The Money Shot: "Journalists are inherently the laziest people on earth. Even in the age of Google, they don't do any work to check what they're writing about."

Kanye West and Peter Bjorn and John: It's On (Pitchfork)
MS: He's going to rap on a song and we're going to play along and I'm going to dance. But I don't know specifics, like, what we're gonna do. Just jam around a bit. I may have to choreograph a dance routine. I have to check out his videos and see what he's doing. Maybe we will put on some new suits. You know, sweat pants? Gymnastic outfits-- what do you call them? Tracksuits?"

Pearl Jam Proffers Rarities At Lollapalooza Warmup (Billboard)
MS: Pearl Jam launched into a 24-song set that went heavy on obscurities and included just two hits, "Wishlist" and "World Wide Suicide." The show opened with the rarely performed "All or None" and the B-side "Education" and went on to feature uncommon songs like "Undone," "Low Light," "I'm Open" and "Rats."

Prince takes a swipe at Madonna during London show (NME)
MS: "I got so many hits y'all can't handle me. I got more hits than Madonna's got kids."

Moby Inspired By Disco Divas On New Album (Billboard)
MS: He tells Billboard.com that the currently untitled disc -- his first set of all-new material since "Hotel" in 2005 -- is "dance-oriented ... in a more late '70s, early '80s sense of dance music, that post-disco period. It doesn't sound like big, banging techno tracks; it's more Grace Jones and Donna Summer inspired."

TV On The Radio tells of Bowie meeting (NME)
MS: "We were at a gas station and Dave (Sitek) got the phone call and hung up the phone, 'cause he thought it was our friend Julian pulling another joke: 'Yeah, you're David Bowie, right.' He called him back two more times and said 'No, I'm really David Bowie."

Top Ten Music Geek Accessories (Stylus)
MS: ...if you’re a real music geek, you need obscure, even anal accessories. You need handmade headphones from a company who only sell online. You need rare, logo-tastic t-shirts that only other geeks recognize. You need devices to keep your CD collection in order. You need exclusive indie band badges doled out only by PR people. You need equipment to demonstrate your undeniable alpha male status in the highly competitive world of the music geek.

The 25 Most Influential Punk Bands (Shoutmouth)
MS: 01. Ramones - The Ramones are pretty much the definitive US punk band. Through the years, the band -- even with lineup changes -- always stayed true to their sound, their style, and what they set out to do -- make punk rock music.

Open House (Boston Globe)
MS: "It (Crowded House) was the excitement about being a band, for everything that means, not being just a brand name,’’

Sounding Off (with Karen O) (The Age)
MS: There was this little girl in the front row, I'll never forget her. She was kind of Goth, with black eyeliner, black outfit. She kept giving me the finger and mouthing the words "I (expletive) hate you," over and over.
