R.E.M. joins fight to stop the end of the world as we know it...

Another reason to love/respect the gents in R.E.M...

R.E.M. is among a group of artists and musicians who have created their own petition requesting legislation they say would ensure that the Internet would remain a level playing field. More than 650,000 people have signed a petition supporting the legislation, while telecommunications companies push for a measure that would leave control in the hands of the Federal Communications Commission.

Network neutrality, also called Internet neutrality, is the idea that the smallest companies and writers have the same access, reach and control as their larger competitors on the Internet. Those seeking to protect the system with federal laws claim that neutrality is what has made the Internet popular, democratic and a haven for free speech.
