On the Road with... David Gray
The Money Shot: The Hives
The Money Shot: It almost seems like the rest of the day I'm keeping it down more than trying to turn it on. I feel like the 23 hours of the day that I'm not on stage are when I'm pretending. If I were to be like that all the time it would never work socially. I've always had way too much energy. I was a hyperactive kid.

Poor Man's Speedball
The Money Shot: "It's been so good, we went straight offstage and Dave gave us a load of Jägerbombs. You ever had a Jägerbomb before? It's great. It's a shot of Jägermeister (strong 70-proof (35%) liqueur flavored with herbs from Germany) and a shot of Red Bull. The poor man's speedball, that's what they call it."

On the Road with... Cat Power
Marshall returns January 24 with The Greatest, her Matador-stamped seventh long-player (if you count that covers disc), and has announced a nine-date jaunt to further assert her sublime superlative-ness. In her corner, a backing ensemble known as the Memphis Rhythm Band, featuring such heavy hitters as guitarist Mabon "Teenie" Hodges and bassist Leroy "Flick" Hodges from the legendary Hi Rhythm band, drummer Steve Potts from the MGs, and guitarist Doug Easley, producer/engineer for everybody from Sonic Youth and Guided by Voices to the Gories and the Box Tops. In the other corner? That dread spectre of stage fright which has notoriously plagued the singer/songwriter. And rumble they shall!
Of course, self-aggrandizement has never been Chan Marshall's game, and let's not forget the aforementioned title track opens with a wistful "Once I was...". So somewhere down in Georgia, a tongue is fondling a cheek, but that's no reason not to catch Chan and her spirited retinue as they aspire to some degree of greatness on these American stages and beyond. And for crissakes, sit down this time around. This means you, Chicago.

CBGB Closing on Next Boo-Day
The new agreement boosts the rent at the world-renowned rock club to a near-market price of $35,000 a month -- up from the old deal's $19,000. It also requires Kristal to leave the dank, dingy space by Oct. 31, 2006 -- although he's already looking for a new location.
The Money Shot: Franz Ferdinand
The Money Shot: "I think if you just continue songwriting, that's when it doesn't strike you as pressure," he told XFM. "That's the reason you get a band together, because you want to write tunes. You want to hang around each other's flats and write songs, and when you don't think about it as being a big deal, that's when you write the best songs."
Bruce, U2, Green Day, Franz Ferdinand Get Grammy Nods
There are always some interesting choices... For example, Neil Young's "The Painter" is nominated for male rock vocal along with Springsteen's "Devils and Dust". A couple of the least rockin' tunes of the year. Young also gets a nod for Best Rock album while Bruce is more rightfully slotted in the Contemporary Folk category.
MJ artists getting a nomination include: U2, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Gorillaz, Coldplay, LCD Soundsystem, John Prine, Green Day, Keane, Jack Johnson, The White Stripes, Fiona Apple, Foo Fighters, Audioslave, NIN, Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer, Arcade Fire, Beck, and Death Cab for Cutie.
The Money Shot: Iron & Wine
Now Beam, who recently moved to rural Texas, is turning his attention to the follow-up to Our Endless Numbered Days. "It's pretty much written, it's just a matter of finding time to record it," he says in a quiet southern drawl. "I'll probably start at the beginning of the new year. I just moved, so I'm trying to set up this home studio. As soon as I get that up and running, I'll start recording."

There is a god... ABBA will never reform
Bjorn Ulvaeus said on Monday that ABBA had no intention of following in the footsteps of other famous bands that have regrouped in recent years. "We believe that what we did then was pretty good," he told Reuters in a telephone interview during a trip to England. "But after, we felt that the energy was running out towards the end of the 1970s, we decided, why should we do a Rolling Stones or a Queen?" he said.
CBGB to say "Vegas Baby"?
Famed punk-rock club CBGB may be trading in the Bowery for the blackjack table. The New York institution — which will be evicted from its current location on the Bowery sometime in 2006 — is in talks to secure a new home near the Aladdin Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

David Byrne In Trouble with The RIAA?
The Money Shot: The RIAA issued me a warning based on a previous radio playlist that featured all Missy [Elliot], all the time. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which was passed by congress in 1998, was a hastily thrown together measure (in my opinion) which aimed to protect the music industry from the impending apocalypse. While some parts of the law seem reasonable, other aspects went somewhat overboard to protect the interests of the industry, before folks even knew what would be developed, invented or what half the terms actually meant.
Mould Says 'No' to Husker Du Reunion
The Money Shot: In the recent reunion-heavy climate, with everyone from the Pixies to Slint to Gang of Four rejoining on the stage, the idea of a Husker Du reunion has graced more than a few tongues. His revisiting of old material seemed to fuel those flames. And still, despite embracing his past successes, Mould is content to laugh off such an endeavor.
Arcade Fire Go To Church For Next CD
The Money Shot: Guitarist Tim Kingsbury told NME.COM: "We're going to start recording. We just bought an old church just south of Montreal and we're turning it into a recording studio. Win (Butler) and Regine (Chassagne) they both sort of had a fantasy of buying a church. "
Hatfield Keeping Her Shirt On
The Money Shot: "I can't compete in today's marketplace anyway," the 38-year-old said. "Mainstream culture is gross. People with the most amazing talent are taking their clothes off to sell their music. I find it disgusting and I'm not a prude. Aretha Franklin never put on a bikini to sell records. Would she have to if she was starting out now?"
Patterson Says New DBT is 'Blessing and a Curse'
The Money Shot: After the last two years of writing a lot slower than I’ve tended to write most of my life, I hit a real super-prolific streak. And I think it’s the result of the pressure of writing a new record, it kind of got me off my ass, and all the stuff that’s happened with having a baby and all of that. Plus at the studio, there’s a lot of downtime where you’re just stuck there. So I wrote a fuck-load. I’ve probably written three albums worth of material.
An Interview with Tommy Ramone
The Money Shot: "We were driving in our van and we pulled into a rest stop. We went in to use the facilities and as we entered the rest stop owner comes up to our road manager and goes, “It’s nice of you taking care of these retarded kids.”
On the Road with We Are Scientists
The Money Shot: The itinerary has them sticking to the northeast, starting at NYC's Bowery Ballroom January 12 and hitting Buffalo, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland and Baltimore before wrapping at Philadelphia's North Star.
Doherty Facing Hard Time
The Money Shot: "I hadn't even told my mum I was back from Arizona and then I got nicked," he continued. "I feel really bad for doing this to her. I'm pretty sure though that I'm going to get in trouble - and I really think I'm going to prison this time.""I can't go back to prison. I can't - I don't think I could take it."
Coming Attractions... The Minus 5
The Money Shot: For the seventh album from his chamber pop collective the Minus 5, the former Young Fresh Fellow has thumbed through his massive rolodex and come up with the kind of guest list indie rock wet dreams are made of: R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, and Glenn Kotche, the Decemberists' Colin Meloy and John Moen, the Posies' Ken Stringfellow, Sean Nelson of Harvey Danger and the Long Winters, singer-songwriter-author John Wesley Harding, alt-country chanteuse Kelly Hogan, and, why not, Ministry's Bill Rieflin and Mott the Hoople’s Morgan Fisher. (Minus 5 indie cred points.)

The Money Shot 12.01.05
Thom Yorke says "Fuck Business Leaders!"
The Money Shot: “So the UN are meeting in Montreal to decide what to do after the Kyoto protocol, and already the US administration has buried its witless head in the fucking sand, refusing to take part. You can even see the strings being pulled. This is a true evil."
Clap Your Hands, Arcade Fire and Blog Buzz
The Money Shot: “Like we tend to get really carried away when we love a record, and while that tends to help a lot of bands we think deserve attention, there can also be negative repercussions if we go too nuts.”
Surprise, Surprise... Doherty Arrested
The Money Shot: The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers had stopped a car driving erratically in the area. The force said "substances" were found and a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs, a category that includes cocaine and heroin.
Coming Attractions... Guster
The Money Shot: Rock act Guster is eyeing a spring 2006 release date for its next Reprise album, "Ganging Up on the Sun." Among the tracks tipped for inclusion are "Hang On," "The Beginning of the End," "C'mon," "One Man Wrecking Machine" and an as-yet-unnamed track featuring vocals from a cashier who works at a food shop near where the band recorded in Woodstock, N.Y.
Meet The Subways
The Money Shot: “We’re going to work hard and make sure that the people who come out to hear our music really have a great time,” Lunn says, admitting to a mix of trepidation and excitement. “We’re coming there to prove ourselves and the only way to do it is to start from square one and build a foundation, build a community. We can hardly wait.”
Coming Attractions... The Eels
The Money Shot: Eels have announced details of a new album and DVD 'Eels With Strings Live At Town Hall'. The album was recorded live at New York's Town Hall on June 30, and follows-up the band's double album 'Blinking Lights And Other Revelations', which was released earlier this year.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs' New Feline Concept CD
The Money Shot: During the pair's stay in Chile, O found a cat, and the soon-to-be-beloved pet eventually became the album's conceptual focus."The whole album is pretty much about this cat's journey from Chile to New York," Clean said. "Each track tells the story of the [cat's life]. So it starts with Coco's birth, to when they found Coco, and continues."
Coming Attractions... Minus 5
The Money Shot: Enduring rock collective the Minus 5 will on Feb. 7 release its next studio album, "The Gun Album." The Yep Roc set features core members Scott McCaughey, guitarist John Ramberg and R.E.M. members Peter Buck and Bill Rieflin surrounded by such guests as John Wesley Harding, Kelly Hogan and the Decemberists' Colin Meloy and John Moen.
